About Us

Winelands Experience is a small, family run, Franschhoek-based tourism service provider that has hosted thousands of highly satisfied guests since its establishment in 2004. From our base inside the Protea Hotel, we specialize in providing and/or arranging a wide range of full and half day tours (particularly wine tours), chauffeur drives, airport and village transfers, wedding logistics, adventurous activities and car hire. For corporate clients, we can also arrange team-building events, social events and activity days.

Guest safety and comfort is of paramount importance to us. We maintain a modern, well-maintained fleet of six vehicles (three new Nissan vehicles purchased in 2016), have all the mandatory vehicle and passenger permits in place and have both public and passenger industry standard liability insurance. All our drivers are qualified and registered tour guides, have years of driving experience, and hold public driving permits and first aid qualifications.

Our seven team members were either born or brought up from a very early age in the Franschhoek Valley. So as well gaining informative local information about the valley, its history, culture and environment, you’ll also get a first-hand insight into what it’s like living and working here. It also means that we have the connections and relationships to deliver truly bespoke experiences.

As part of the local community, Winelands Experience supports a number of local organizations and charities, including Lords Acre Mission Church, Oasis of God Community Outreach and FRANCO.

Johnson Solomons

General Manager

Johnson takes care of managing the day-to-day operations and staff. Starting off as a driver in 2006, he has worked his way up within the company to his current position. As our logistics expert, Johnson is able to ensure the seamless operation of even the most complicated transportation requests; coordinating the use of larger vehicles from our associates in the region or dealing with guest numbers and locations changing at the last minute. Johnson is well known within the valley, whether it’s because of his time at Winelands Experience, previously running the BP garage in town, or because of his support to the Groendaal community. Johnson is qualified to lead tours throughout the Western Cape and in relation to the Cape Wine Industry (WC7665).

Lowie Geland

Operations Manager

Lowie is another member of the team who has worked his way up through the company. He initially started working with us a driver in 2009, then gained his tour guide qualifications before taking on the position of Operations Manager. He now takes care of bookings and correspondence so you’ll likely see his name at the bottom of an email.

Lowie has lived his whole life in the Franschhoek Valley so knows the Cape Winelands like the back of his hand. Having been brought up on one of the valley’s wine farms, Lowie manages to add a very personal touch to every tour he's leading. Lowie is qualified to lead tours in the Overberg, Winelands, Breede River, Cape Metropole, West Coast, Klein Karoo, Kannaland, Garden Route and Port Elizabeth, as well as tours on the Cape Wine Industry (WC7444).

Joining Winelands Experience in 2007 as a driver, Roger gained his first tour guide qualification soon afterwards and is now one of our most popular guides, with many guests specifically requesting his services when they book with us again. Community Involvement

The Winelands Experience team always makes a difference through tourism by supporting local communities and being responsible to maintain or improve the environment and local culture. We are the only tour operator in the wine valley who sponsors a local soccer team of a previously disadvantaged background, in order to give the players a fair sporting chance in life and keeping them off the streets, where a lot of youngsters life’s gets demolished because of drug related issues.

Travellers all over the world wishes a tour to South Africa to be an opportunity to learn not only about its history and culture, but also to experience the delights of our local food, comfortable transportations and other amenities to ensure a completely stress-free vacation. This is particularly true of visitors to Franschhoek and the rest of the Cape Winelands. Our private guided tours are designed to meet these expectations of all visitors to the Valley. We have the largest fleet of vehicles in Franschhoek providing transportation and tours to both local and foreign visitors.
