FAQs

Drivers, Guides and Vehicles

Do you use experienced drivers? All our guides have many years of driving experience and have public driving permits.

Are your guides qualified? All of our guides are certified and registered with the Western Cape Government. They each have different certifications (covering various locations within the Western Cape) but are all qualified to lead tours in the Winelands, and are specialised in the Cape Wine Industry. They will be wearing their guide badges when they meet you.

What vehicles do you use? Winelands Experience maintains a fleet of six air-conditioned vehicles. We have three new Nissan NV200s, a VW Sharan and a Toyota Quantum. We also have a Mahindra Scorpio, which we use for office use.

Do your vehicles have all the necessary permits? We comply with all national and provincial legislation pertaining to operating vehicles for paying passengers. Any vehicle you step in to will have three round permits displayed in the window.

 

Tours

What times do your tours start? Half day tours typically start at 9.30am or 1.30pm and our full-day tours at 9.30am. Although we will endeavour to accommodate specific requests, please understand that if a half-day tour starts later than 10am, we will be unable to use the same driver/guide and vehicle for another half-day tour in the afternoon.

Can you pick us up and drop us off at our hotel? We will certainly pick you up from your accommodation and return you at the end of your tour.

How long are your tours? Our half-day tours are three hours in duration and our full-day tours six to seven hours in duration.

Do you have itineraries for your tours you can send me? Our tours are tailor made for you, based on your interests and requirements. We can certainly send you itineraries if you’re not sure what you would like to do, but the majority of our guests let us know their interests and together we frame a tour around them.

 

Airport Transfers

How far is Franschhoek from Cape Town Airport? Franschhoek is approximately 75km (47 miles) from Cape Town Airport – the exact distance depends on the route taken.

How long does it take to get to Franschhoek? It typically takes 45 – 60 minutes to travel from the airport to Franschhoek, although in rush hour the time frame can increase quite substantially.

What route do you take? The quickest way to get to Franschhoek is normally via the N1 towards Paarl, although in rush hour we may suggest taking you via Stellenbosch.

Do you charge per vehicle or per person? The initial cost is based on the vehicle and supplemental charges are applied based on the number of passengers.

 

Village Transfers

How much is a village transfer? Please ask us for a quote. Charges are based on the origin, destination and the vehicles used (which is based on the number of passengers).

What is the latest time I can request a transfer? Winelands Experience operates village transfers until 1am.

 

Car Hire

Can I have a car delivered and picked up from my hotel? Absolutely. Just let us know where you are staying and when you would like the vehicle and we will arrange for delivery and collection.

 

Payments & Cancellations

When do we pay for our tour? We request a 50% deposit at the time of booking to secure your tour. The balance is then payable on the day of your tour.

When do we pay for our transfer? Village transfers can be paid on the day of the transfer. We request a 50% deposit for transfers outside of the valley at the time of booking.

How can we pay? We accept cash, credit cards (MasterCard, VISA, Diners Club and American Express), electronic wire transfers and payment with SnapScan.

What if we need to cancel? Cancellations within 48 hours of your tour or transfer will attract a 50% cancellation charge. For corporate events and large group travel, alternate cancellation policies will apply – largely depending on the extent of use of external partners and associates.

 

General

What are your office hours? The Winelands Experience office is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5.00pm, although we operate seven days a week and into the evenings. Please note that we are closed on Christmas Day and New Years’ Day.

What insurance do you have? Winelands Experience maintains industry standard public and passenger liability insurance.
