There’s so much to see and do in the Cape Winelands that it’s difficult to know where to start; so many great vineyards, restaurants, attractions, and outdoor activities. With many guests visiting Franschhoek for just a short period of time, making the most of your stay can be a challenge. This is where Winelands Experience can step in.
Although we have a portfolio of tours, the majority of our guests ask us to put together tailor-made tours, to take account of specific requirements (usually in relation to time, pick up and drop off locations, dietary requirements or guest numbers) or interests (relating to food and wine, specific locations to visit, or activities to undertake).
For all our tours and transfers you can either use one of our vehicles or reduce the cost by having us drive you in your own car or rental vehicle. If you wish to use your own car, then please make sure your insurance covers additional drivers. For rental vehicles, please contact us in advance to discuss adding an additional driver to the policy.

A trip to Franschhoek really isn't complete unless you've visited at least a few Franschhoek vineyards and wine estates; of which there are more than 40! Our half-day wine tour is led by one of our own qualified guides, will take you to up to three wineries within the Franschhoek valley and give you a basic introduction to the region’s wine industry and history. For each winery visited, you’ll have the chance to try a handful of different wines, hear about their unique products and any awards they have received. For those who are new to wine tasting, you’ll have a quick introduction to the wine tasting ritual and gain the ability to describe the taste, the ‘nose’ and the colour.
You are welcome to request visits to wineries you have heard about, or are familiar with, or ask us to suggest wineries based on your interests. We aren’t associated with any estates or winemakers, nor do we have set itineraries, so your tour will be personalised based on your interests and requirements. The half-day tour includes all wine tasting fees.
- Full-day Wine Tours (Wine Enthusiast)

For a wider selection of wines and wineries, particularly those outside the Franschhoek Valley (within the Stellenbosch and Paarl regions) we suggest the full-day wine tour. Again led by our own qualified guides, you’ll visit to up to five wineries and have the opportunity to indulge in a food and wine-pairing lunch (optional).
The full-day tour also provides the opportunity to learn more about wines of the region, the grapes, terroir and the wine-making processes.
An area not frequently visited by your average wine tour is Elgin. The Elgin region has around 800 hectares of vines divided among 16 farms, most of which are conveniently close to each other making for easy visiting. Their wines are, quite simply, somewhat different from their ‘lowland’ neighbours in the Franschhoek, Stellenbosch, Paarl regions. They benefit from the region’s cooler terroir with an elegance and finesse that typifies handcrafted wines.
Wine Coaching (Wine Connoisseur)
Whether you are a wine enthusiast or just wine curious, our full-day wine coaching may be just what you’re looking for. As a newcomer to wine, we can help you understand what separates a good wine from a great wine, understand the difference between a Sauvignon Blanc and a Chardonnay and help you make better wine choices when you’re dining out or supermarket shopping. For those already wine familiar, we can help you better understand the South African varietals, the characteristics of the local terroir and introduce you to some of the wonderful lesser-known local wines.
The wine coaching experience is a full-day activity, including lunch, which takes you to three of four local wineries. You’ll be accompanied by a local Cape Wine Academy graduate familiar with the local vineyards, wines, terroir and wine-making techniques. To make the most of your day, we’ll need to know your preference for reds, whites or bubbles, your interest in wine pairing, specific dietary requirements, your level of wine knowledge and your goals for the coaching experience. The day can be as relaxed, intensive or technical as you wish. Meetings with winemakers and viticulturists, and cellar tours can often be arranged with sufficient advance notice.
- Chauffeur Drives
- Book this Chauffeur Drive tour online now
For complete flexibility on where to go, what to do, and how much time to take, many of our guests choose our Chauffeur Drives. You just let us know where to pick you up, at what time and how many passengers and we then take you wherever you want to go for as long as you want to be out and about!
Chauffeur Drives are ideal for any type of trip – shopping, sightseeing trips to Cape Town, Stellenbosch Paarl and locations further afield, or just around the village. If you want to do some wine tasting, want to avoid drinking and driving, already know which vineyards you want to visit, and don’t require any specialist wine knowledge, then a Chauffeur Drive may be suitable. In this case, you would be responsible for any and all wine tasting fees.
Culture, Nature and Scenic Tours
Although Franschhoek is best known for being South Africa’s food and wine capital, the Winelands region has a whole lot more to offer. Our tour portfolio therefore includes township tours of nearby Groendal (home for many of the Winelands team), cultural tours of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch, safaris to private game reserves around Ceres to see the ‘Big 5’, and coastal trips to Hermanus and Cape Agulhus.
One of our most popular tours takes you around the Cape Peninsula and includes Chapman’s Peak, the Cape of Good Hope, and Simons Town. We can also take you to Cape Town’s major attractions, including Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Robben Island, the Waterfront and Cape Town Aquarium. There are also a number of attractions in the locality suitable for children including Le Bonheur Crocodile Farm, Drakenstein Lion Park and Butterfly World. Please email us for further details.
